MoveOn.org: "Stop Saying No to Medicaid"

By March of 2014, GOP leaders in 24 states had still refused to accept federal funds to expand Medicaid, leaving more than 5.7 million Americans uninsured. After a brainstorm with ART NOT WAR, Moveon decided to shine a harsh light on the most egregious offenders by creating roadside billboard ads parodying state tourism campaigns. “Pick your passion!” read the billboard in Louisiana. “But hope you don’t love your health. Gov. Jindal’s denying Medicaid to 242,000 people.” The state of Louisiana sued to remove the billboard and, in response, MoveOn asked ART NOT WAR to create “Stop Saying ‘No’ to Medicaid,” a TV ad doubling down the challenge against Governor Jindal’s partisan denial of $1.65 billion in federal funds.

ART NOT WAR enlisted actor Harold Sylvester–a Louisiana native–to remind Gov. Jindal that Louisianans are “passionate about our music, our food, and our history. But it’s hard to be proud when you’re denying our people health care they’ve already paid for.” The ad was covered in the Washington Post, The Hill, and The Advocate. But best of all, it elicited a direct response in the form of a prickly op-ed in the Shreveport Times from Governor Jindal himself, throwing fuel on the fire for the battle to wage on.
